Ambermoon.NET is an open-source remake of the classic arcade game, which was originally planned to have a PC DOS and Atari ST version. Back in 1991, Power Play magazine discussed the game Amberstar, which used a 3D engine routine. The game was created by Michael Bittner for the Atari ST, and ported to the PC by Jurgen Friedrich (who had previously worked on the ST port of Hard Drivin'). The magazine was impressed by the Amberstar engine and thought it could be the future of 3D dungeon exploration games.
The game is based on the original Amberstar trilogy. The game was originally intended to be a trilogy and released for the Amiga and Atari ST in 1992. The sequel, Ambermoon, was released for the Amiga in 1993. When Thalion went out of business, Albion was under development and transferred to Blue Byte. It has since become one of the most popular games on the Internet. This website is dedicated to the game.
